About the New Fairfield Wrestling Club

What is the  NFWC?

            It is an all-volunteer  “booster club” for amateur wrestling in New Fairfield.   We are a not-for-profit, incorporated  legal entity in the state of Connecticut.

Why do we exist?

            The school sponsors  the NFHS Team (or at least most of it), but MS wrestling was dropped from school sponsorship about 7 years ago.  The MS and LR Teams would not exist if there were not a private organization to sponsor them.   The club provides an umbrella organization to recruit  ES, and MS team members, and to recruit, train, and insure coaches for the New Fairfield Wrestling Club teams. Only about one third of the costs for wrestling are paid by member registration fees, so the organization also fund-raises and pays the bills.

Who is the organization?

            All wrestlers, and friends and families of wrestlers, in New Fairfield are voting members of the NFWC.   A number of members have continued to be active and involved despite no longer having wrestlers on one of the NF teams.

Wrestling in New Fairfield

The wrestling club sponsors three age group teams  for New Fairfield residents. 

·        First,  there is a short Mites program every fall that teaches the basics of wrestling to residents ages 4 through grade 2 by playing games on the mat. 

·        The Little Rebels  program is a winter-long program of competitive wrestling open to residents in grades 1-5.  New Fairfield’s team is one of 7 or 8 teams in western Connecticut that have informal dual meets every Thursday and end up the league season with a league championship. 

·        The Middle School Team is a winter-long program of competitive wrestling for grades 6-8.  We participate in a 14-team league of western Connecticut teams, and have a league championship in late January.
